6/22/11: Day 4 of camp

Two weeks surrounded by people just like me. A place filled with teenagers who have the same love and passion for journalism.

Live from camp: Real Talk - The true first day of journalism camp

6/21/11: Day 3 of camp

The world is going to end, who cares?

When I first found out that this year’s camp was going to have an environment based theme, I was not excited.

Live from camp: Creeping and climbing on the first day of journalism camp

6/20/11: Day 2 of camp

I slam my hand on the off button at 7:05, a minute before my unbelievably obnoxious alarm is set to go off, and kick off my first full day of journalism camp at the Univer

Live from July camp: Day 8

This is kind of a sad day. It’s sad because this morning we lost Breann from our “team.” I thought she took the wrong bus because she said she was going to ride with David and me.

Live from July camp: Day 7

Today is the seventh day in camp — July 14 — and we all are working hard to get our interview questions answered — making phone calls, and leaving messages.

Live from July camp: Day 6

Who knew Journalism was such hard work and intimidating at the same time? I didn’t know about it until I started attending camp. It doesn’t matter how much hard work and frustration I have to go through, this is the coolest experience of all.

Live from July camp: Day 5

When I signed up for camp, I had no idea it would be so fun. I do like school but it’s like camp teaches more, but is fun at the same time. It’s awesome.

Live from July camp: Day 4

Friday was a pretty good day as far as even J-camp days go. It started by me getting a ride to the campus as usual, but I brought my longboard this time so I could explore the campus a little bit more.

Live from July camp: Day 3

Today began like the previous two days did: We arrived at the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center at St. Thomas at 9:30 a.m., and it was off to the races.

Live from July Camp: Day 2

Our first project of the day was to go out and interview people on campus about why they chose their major.

Room No. 303 in the O’Shaughnessy Education Center located on the St. Thomas campus is where it all began.

Live from camp: An interesting interview experience

A week and two days through ThreeSixty Journalism, it’s been a tense but mostly fun experience. My group members are Franny (my partner) and Charlie (my mentor).

Live from camp: Deadline! Crunch time!

Crunch time is finally here as we haul through the last two days of camp, the pressure to finish our assignments pushing us to give our all.

Live from camp: Feeling melancholy as the end of camp approaches

I was standing in line today, waiting for a garden burger when it hit me – we have two more nights here and then barely two more days. A wave of melancholy overcame me. Two days?! Really?!

Live from camp: Grateful to be here

At least once a day, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude that I am here. That’s not to say every moment has been bliss—there are challenges, without a doubt. But all in all, I cannot believe the opportunities we have here. I can’t believe the exceptional people I’ve met, the things I’ve learned and the fun I’ve had.

Live from the Avid lab on Saturday morning, Edwin Flowers and Max Ferreira discuss their stories — teens and impaired driving and gun violence, respectively.

Live from camp: Learning about differences and taking steps toward the future

Overall, the ThreeSixty program is interesting and helpful. What’s the most interesting to me is all the different types of students that gathered here for the same reason: to write and report.

Live from camp: Exercising more, exploring town and reporting my story

Today, I woke up to a cheery version of “Magic” by Selena Gomez. It was enchanting and gave me a lively boost not unlike my Mango-A-Go-Go smoothie I got this morning. Belinda and I actually woke up at 6:00 a.m. for a stimulating hour-and-a-half trek to the glorious Jamba Juice.

After yesterday’s seminar conducted by Cara McNulty, the Statewide Health Improvement Program manager, we were convinced to take on the challenge of thirty minutes of exercise per day.

Live from camp: Interviews, newspapers and Mafia

I’ve done interviews before, but none were quite as difficult as the one I did yesterday with Gloria Ferguson at a school-based clinic here in St. Paul.

Live from camp: Two days down, 10 more to go

Cheese and rice, it’s been a long two days. Not that anyone says it hasn’t been a fun long two days.
